Week 6: pixel art

Week 6 of Art and Animation challenged us with pixel art. A fairly simple way of creating basic art.

For the pixel art challenge, we were instructed to make pixel artboards for out platformer player and its animations.

The main idle animation

The first artboard I made was for the idle animation of the player. I took the idea from my top down shooter games player as inspiration. But for this game I was able to draw the entire body and add something in place of the weapon (the skateboard).

The middle of the jump animation

The middle of the jump animation was made by re-drawing the body and adjusting some of the players limbs to tilt the skateboard.

The height of the jump animation

The final animation part I made for the jump is the height of the jump. With a relatively rough copy of the player and the skateboard, all I needed to adjust was the positioning of certain limbs and the board.

The animations were implemented into my platformer game but did not work. Though that was an issue with Unity Engine and not Adobe Photoshop. Eventually they did work and were implemented.

In conclusion, pixel art for animations is fairly easy to make and furthered the development of my platformer game.
