Week 5: top down shooter assets

Week 5 of Art and Animation tasked me to use pixel art to create the assets for my top down shooter game.

The rough idea was to make animals with certain things to fit the game.

The enemy sprite

The first sprite I made was the enemy, which is a wolf. I decided on a wolf as the game is set on a farm that the player is tasked with protecting. During out lecture that week, the main topic was shape theory. With triangles and sharper shapes symbolizing dangers and evil characters I made the sprite primarily out of triangles, emphasizing the lines made it easy to create the wolf.

The player sprite

The next sprite I made was the player. As the game is set on a farm I wanted to make the player animal themed. But at the same time, the game needs to be a top down shooter. So I drew a horse head with a human body and a gun. This allows the player to see that they are shooting a gun and notice that the player is actually human (to a degree).

The other sprites I made was a bullet and two other variations of the wolf but with a stripe of colour on their back to symbolize the different enemy types.

In conclusion, sprites are easy to make in Adobe Photoshop. These sprites were used and put into my Unity game, BoJack HorseGun.
